World Market "celebrates" closing in Bethesda (Photos)

Another longtime Bethesda small business is closing its doors. World Market, a mom-and-pop market and deli at 8125 Wisconsin Avenue held a "Closing Day" celebration last night. Loyal customers packed into the store, and the atmosphere was a festive one. Patrons snapped photos inside, and you would not guess without asking that the occasion was the closing of the store.

World Market is often mistaken for the large chain of the same name, which has locations just outside of Bethesda. It has operated since 1972.

Well, why didn't you report on this yesterday? Surely some of your "faithful readers" are also "faithful customers" of World Market, and would have liked to have visited the store one last time.

And why no pictures of the "celebration"? That would have been newsworthy.

5:37: You'll have to ask the store why it wasn't announced to the broader public in advance. I heard about it, and had to go check it out to confirm the rumors.

They are retiring. Store is going to continue on under new ownership.

Glad 5:37am didn't come to the party last night. He would have complained the whole time and made everyone miserable.

9:54 AM The only meltdown is you, the lone troll fighting on. Not sure what you're fighting, but you're here most days.

Why are you seeking Robert's attention?

Nobody much cares about your blog that you keep promoting.

10:01 AM Agreed. Not sure why 9:54am thinks attacking Robert is a good promotional tool for his blog and magazine. Not a good way to sell subscriptions!

If he could tell us something positive about his blog and magazine, maybe we'd consider it. We're kind of at peak Bethesda blog though :)

I gave you the tip yesterday, you failed to cover it so you got scooped by that other site. Trust your sources sometimes.

I sometimes wonder if this is all the ramblings of the same crazy person having fake arguments.

11:33 - me too. Unless... are you the same person? How many people are actually in this conversation?

The only person who commented and identified himself with a real name was Dyer.
Then the negative troll came in.

Robert Dyer said...

10:48: I had the first story about it! How can the first to report it be "scooped"?

Dyer reported that this store is closed. It's not. It just changed name owners and name - now "Maple Beer and Wine". In fact, it's open right now.

The new owners should sue his fanny for loss of business.

Cool, but World Market still closed. It's not the same place. Troll on

6:00pm World Market is gone dude. Let it go.
